It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, Sofie Cleverdon, peacefully, on April 22, 2021, at the age of 96. Sofie was born to John and Chrissie Gerassimou in Port Arthur. She married Jack Cleverdon on November 16, 1945, and spent her life raising a family that she loved very much.
Sofie spent six years attending Central School after which she worked for her parent s restaurant, the Central Candy Kitchen, until the business closed in 1961. She was also employed at Murray s Grill and the Provincial Paper s Canteen. Sofie also was a working partner in our family business, Cleverdon Painting and Decorating. Mom shared the responsibilities with Dad as a Custodian for the Orange and True Blue Hall and the Canadian Order of Foresters. She was not afraid of a hard days’ work. Mom was widowed at the age of 59 and was there to raise her five children on her own. Another example of her strength and endurance to overcome any obstacles she faced.
Our Kids Count lands second Bell Let s Talk Community Fund grant
The $25,000 will be used to upgrade counselling services offered by the Thunder Bay organization.

THUNDER BAY – Bell Let’s Talk Day has paid off for a local charity.
Our Kids Count on Thursday announced it is the recipient of a $25,000 Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund grant, which will be used to provide additional group counselling in Thunder Bay. Among those the charity intends to target with the windfall are groups for men, post-natal parents, youth, as well as those experiencing loss and in need of suicide loss support.
