The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday 1 May 2021 at 10:27 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 63 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) which listed the quake at magnitude 6.8. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) at magnitude 6.9, the United States Geological Survey at magnitude 6.6, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 6.7.
