Significant magnitude 6 7 earthquake 45 km southeast of Ishinomaki, Japan

Sat, 1 May 2021, 01:40 01:40 AM | BY: EARTHQUAKEMONITOR 6.7 quake 1 May 10:27 am (GMT +9) The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 6.7 quake in Japan near Ishinomaki, Ishinomaki Shi, Miyagi, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday 1 May 2021 at 10:27 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 63 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) which listed the quake at magnitude 6.8. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) at magnitude 6.9, the United States Geological Survey at magnitude 6.6, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 6.7.

Moderate magnitude 4 3 quake hits 30 km southwest of Kotabumi, Indonesia early afternoon

The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Wednesday 3 February 2021 at 2:01 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 205 km below the surface. The event was filed by Indonesia s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Kotabumi (pop. 42,400, 30 km away), Terbanggi Besar (pop. 52,600, 64 km away), Metro (pop. 149,500, 76 km away), Bandar Lampung (pop. 800,300, 88 km away), and Baturaja (pop. 134,800, 104 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
