Even as the US government has announced a travel ban on India starting May 4, some categories of travellers including Indian students seeking to commence studies in American universities in the Fall semester of 2021 have been exempted under the national interest exceptions.
This is in keeping with the US department of state’s commitment to facilitate legitimate travel. Just over two months ago, the city’s elected board of education voted to strip schools of the names. Parents, students and elected officials condemned the board for some of its targets – Lincoln, for example, was the president who defeated the Confederacy and ended slavery – and for its timing.
The decision in late January came while all of San Francisco’s public classrooms were closed because of coronavirus restrictions. They still are.
