India News: NEW DELHI: As many as 11,000 vehicles belonging to the Central Armed Police Forces such as the BSF, CRPF and CISF will be scrapped as part of a Centra.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will deploy an additional 100 companies apart from its units already present in these states, including Chhattisgarh where it has permanently stationed about 25-30 battalions primarily for undertaking anti-Naxal operations.
IAF helicopters evacuated another 75 people, including 17 tourists, 55 locals and three labourers, to Ringhim helipad in Mangan. Over the last four days, a total of 3,871 people, including tourists, have been evacuated by air and foot from North Sikkim towns.
The Committee comprises senior officers of the BRO, and senior Engineers of the Roads and Bridges Department and Rural Development Department of the Government of Sikkim. The team has been assigned the responsibility to immediately start the inspection of suitable locations for construction of suspension bailey bridges to connect the cut-off areas, and submit the report by 12th October 2023.
The Indian Air Force has begun providing aid to the Sikkim region, which has been devastated by flash floods in the Teesta River. So far, 33 bodies have been found, with over 105 people reported missing. The air force is using helicopters to transport aid and rescue stranded individuals. The weather conditions in the area are still a concern, as more rain is expected over the next five days. The exact toll of the disaster will become clearer once all the details have been collected.
