infirm we begin this hour of msnbc and san francisco with new details on the violent attack on the husband of house speaker nancy pelosi charges against the suspect could drop tomorrow. the new york times reports the suspect, david depape, remains in custody, and will face charges including attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon. in a letter this morning to congress, speaker pelosi said her husband paul is improving. but says the attack has left her family quote, heartbroken and traumatized. pelosi underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture that he s expected to make a full recovery. as for the investigation, we ve learned today from police, zip ties were found at the scene inside pelosi s home. authorities do not say how many zip ties were found nor the intent or their purpose. as for the political response to the attack, it s been divided so far. rhonda mcdaniel today. this was a vicious attack, meant for the speaker. ends up hammering the speaker s husban
top of the hour on cnn newsroom. it is always good to be with you. i m victor blackwell. today the country honors the civil rights champion dr. martin luther king jr. at an event in the nation s capitol, president biden highlighted what his administration has done to try to bring americans together and ensure racial equality, but his call for unity comes as he faces growing questions about the classified documents that were found at his home and his washington office. this weekend, the white house announced five additional pages of classified material that were found at president biden s house in delaware. that brings the number of classified documents in total found at his home and private office to about 20. let s bring in cnn s legal affairs correspondent paula reid. let s talk more about these five pages, what the president s attorneys are saying. well, victor, these five pages were among previously disclosed material located at the president s wilmington residence. i
still without power. the extent of the death and destruction may just be coming to light. governor ron desantis is defending officials in lee county where more than half the storm related deaths have been announced. they re facing criticism for issuing evacuation orders a day later than neighboring counties. here s what governor ron desantis told cnn. is that what you ll be reviewing, looking at the evacuation orders even lee county if they had followed their own evaluation orders from what we reviewed they should have had the evacuation order sooner. the issue is they informed people and most people did not want to do it. that s just the reality. you re in a situation, are you going to grab somebody out of their home that doesn t want to. i don t think that s the appropriate use of government. i think that takes it a little too far. reporter: boris sanchez joins us live from fort myers this morning to tell us what they re dealing with there. boris, what s the latest?
