receive compassion for the people who are paying it. that s one of the things that are new about this budget. what else is new? it s new in that it balances. we couldn t find a president obama budget that balanced ever. he tried a couple times to convince us that primary balance was balanced. we reject that. we get to an actual balance on this budget within the 10-year window. ed begins to reduce the size of the debt relative to the size of the economy in year one. that s how important it was and is to this president to try and bring in some discipline. if you re looking through the perspective of the people who pay, you would like to be able to tell them at some point in the foreseeable future, you re going to be able to balance. previous administration completely give up on that. as i ve said before to the previous administration, if you
who make $40,000 a year that s a big chunk when you figure that on top of the money you re paying. so it is a double sticker shock. we ve heard a lot about the premium that s are happening on the front end. when you see the prices and you say this is more than i thought i would be getting. this will be hitting next year. it is how the system was designed. you re supposed to have that option. the whole point is if you have a high deductible, you won t get health care so now you re paying boo the pot to pay other people so it will discourage you to use the services. it is a good way, i use that lightly. a way to extract money from people who won t be drawing from the system. exactly. the way it balances, you expect they will use less service that s the they feel they re paying more. there s a lot of health care that is preventive health. and you should not be in the position of not seeking remedy because you re worried about the
going to let this happen any way. we were doing this thing for no reason whatsoever except that it balances off the other thing for new york which is a bad idea. it s not the finest hour as a country right now. i do think if you keep 5% rule in mind perhaps next time it will work out better. do you think that when the defense secretary called this pastor when secretary clinton spoke out and the president spoke out, should they have not spoken out about it so as not to elevate this guy? it s a good question. they are probably sitting there asking themselves that question. once they did that, you couldn t as a news organization say i am going to ignore the crazy guy that the president is calling up tomorrow. it doesn t work at that point. we ll see. gail collins, columnist for the new york times, nice to see you. coming up, a textbook example of bogus grassroots outrage
there s fire laws about burning things in bonfires in gainesville and my impression was the fire department was not going to let this happen any way. we were doing this thing for no reason whatsoever except that it balances off the other thing for new york which is a bad idea. it s not the finest hour as a country right now. i do think if you keep 5% rule in mind perhaps next time it will work out better. do you think that when the defense secretary called this pastor when secretary clinton spoke out and the president spoke out, should they have not spoken out about it so as not to elevate this guy? it s a good question. they are probably sitting there asking themselves that question. once they did that, you couldn t as a news organization say i am going to ignore the crazy guy that the president is calling up tomorrow. it doesn t work at that point.
i made the same point in the opening segment and i yelled. i m sorry, i get a little emotional about it. the reason this is getting driven the way that it is and sort of why this kook guy who would be ignored by everyone in news in this country, the reason it is news is it s tapping into the idea that there is a war on islam in america and that s being pushed by respectable political figures. there doesn t seem to be anybody pushing that line though answering for the crazier side of it. yes, i think that s a good point. this whole thing i ve always wondered from the beginning, there s fire laws about burning things in bonfires in gainesville apparently and my impression was the fire department was not going to let this happen anyway. we were doing this thing for no reason whatsoever except that it balances off the other thing for new york, which was such a bad idea.
