DR Congo defeat Niger to top group, Halidou blunder proves costly
DR Congo finished top of Group B of the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2020 after beating Niger 2-1 in Yaounde on Monday.
A 90th minute howler by Mena goalkeeper Abdoul Razak Halidou allowed the Leopards to win the match and end their opponents hopes of advancing.
With the score at 1-1 Niger were hoping to win to qualify for the knock-out stage of the tournament until Halidouâs attempt to clear a back pass ended as a gift to Leopards striker Masasi Obenza who gratefully tapped in for the winner.
Niger rally to hold Congo in CHAN Group B clash
Congo and Niger played an entertaining 1-1 draw in Group B of the TOTAL African Nations Championship (CHAN) match in Cameroon on Thursday.
The Mena rallied in the second-half to hold the Red Devils who took a first-half lead in the match played at the iconic Japoma Stadium in Douala.
Right-back Prince Mouandza, who plays for Diables Niors, opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box.
But Niger equalized when substitute Mossi Moussa converted a penalty with 20 minutes remaining after a Congolese defender handled the ball in the box.
Niger held by Libya in CHAN Group B opener
Niger and Libya both squandered gilt-edged chances as they ground out a goalless stalemate in Group B of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in the Cameroon city of Douala on Sunday.
The former champions from North Africa were the favourites going into the match but the West Africans surprised their opponents with a swift attacking display.
The Menas had most of the chances of the match at the iconic Japoma Stadium but they engineered their failure to win the match through a number of missed chances and faulty passing in the opponentâs box.
