Libya eye victory over Niger in Group B clash at CHAN
Former winners Libya begin their Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), Cameroon 2020 campaign when they take on neighbours Niger on Sunday.
The Mediterranean Knights are the favourites in the Group B match to be played at the iconic Japoma Stadium in Douala.
But the north Africans have a mountain to climb against an ambitious Nigerien side that reached the quarter-finals of the 2011 edition of the competition.
That is because the Menas will be eyeing their best appearance in their third participation in the competition designed only for home-based players.
The West Africans have been psychologically boosted for the match knowing that their opponents qualified for the competition by accident.
Niger held by Libya in CHAN Group B opener
Niger and Libya both squandered gilt-edged chances as they ground out a goalless stalemate in Group B of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in the Cameroon city of Douala on Sunday.
The former champions from North Africa were the favourites going into the match but the West Africans surprised their opponents with a swift attacking display.
The Menas had most of the chances of the match at the iconic Japoma Stadium but they engineered their failure to win the match through a number of missed chances and faulty passing in the opponentâs box.
Libya appears for the fourth time in the African Nations Championship (CHAN). The Mediterranean Knights played in 3 previous editions, in Cote d’Ivoire 2009, South Africa 2014 where they were crowned as Champions, and in Morocco 2018.
