workers are not on board with it. joining me is the american nurses association president, dr. ernest grant. thank you for being with us, doctor. what worries you about the shorter isolation guidelines? first of all, thank you for having me. what worries us is we believe the guidelines are premature, given what is known about omicron. it seems to tip more towards economic needs as opposed to taking into consideration the health needs of nurses, and other members of the health care team. we believe that keep in mind, there are two sets of guidelines, december 23rd the cdc issud guidelines for health care workers and december 28th issued guidelines for the general public, but for health care workers, we believe that there needs to be more accessibility to testing, as well as employers continuing to provide the protected ppes that need to be provided. we re hearing in some cases that still is not the case.
its estimates about omicron s prevalence were subject to change i do actually think they should have done a better job communicating the confidence interval, sort of how much uncertainty there was in the data i know many people sort of took it at face value, but it was an estimate based on relatively small samples. let s talk about those new cdc guidelines so much of the new guidelines are built around trusting people to be honest about when they re asymptomatic right direction. even if you think about our current isolation guidelines, ten days, also based on the honor system, do you think the new isolation guidelines are enough to keep people safe when they re based on the honor system? well, i think they re a step in the right direction even if you think about our current isolation guidelines, ten days, also based on the honor system, but i think it s a step in the right direction. i wish the cdc had also added in getting a negative test before ending isolation as we just hea
the cdc s decision to change isolation guidelines. what s your concern? our concern is that this is putting all the onus on the workers. and when you put policies forward that are pro-business and not grounded in public health, it gives people reason to pause and not trust our public health requirement. and that puts flight attendants in an even graver danger as they re trying to enforce public health initiatives like the mask requirement and then facing conflict on our planes. we re also very concerned that it s not reporting that workers don t have to come to work if they re still symptomatic. so it s asymptomatic and mask wearing throughout the rest of the time. there s no requirement on businesses to put those things in place. so we need to get the word out to all workers, you should not be forced to come back to work sick. and before you re fully better. people are worn out. and we ve got to give them a break in order to take care of this country and keep the
