that might be good news for republicans on the hill who have been pressing the president saying this will create a lot of jobs. this will make us less energy dependent on foreign oil, but i will tell you that people inside the white house, number one, are saying this does not mean it s yes. it s not a green light yet. they re moving closer to it but not a green light. they still feel inside the white house this won t be some big job boon that republicans say on the hill, that they ll be short-term construction jobs but not necessarily long term jobs that will be massive jobs creator that republicans have suggested. i think the point is the white house is moving closer to approving this pipeline which is a bit of a surprise. you know, it s not just republicans that have been saying that. unions is another group that have backed the president. absolutely. it was sort of the division for the president. i don t want to tick off the environmentalists, i don t want to tick off unions,
measurement issues and will fall out of the data. having said that you still have a big gain in looking over the past year, household employment is rising fairly steadily, solidly. i wouldn t say strongly but, you know, this isn t too bad. it shows the job market is steadily improving. when you looked at the different sectors, 44,000 added in health care, 17,000 in transportation, the big one here, 16,000 added in manufacturing. i remember when you and i talked last month manufacturing was a negative and i remember you basically questioned that number. you were shocked by it. chuck, i m not sure. was it up or down? this time it was up and i think it was last month we had the surprise where manufacturing was down. you know, my view is manufacturing august versus september. my apologies. right. my view is that manufacturing is weakened in the last few months largely because of europe and the fallout on our exports which drive manufacturing. but, you know, i think our manufa
pick up in the summer? i do. we were overly optimistic. the numbers looked great in the winter. now, we are overly pessimistic, because of the payback from that effect. we will see the reality this summer and fall. i think the reality is job growth that is close to 175,000, 200,000 per month, which, again, is not great. it would be great if we saw more than that. that isn t too bad. mark zandi, moody s annal lis ticks. thank you, sir. straight ahead, we will get team obama s take on that brand new jobs report. delaware democrat, chris coons joins me next month. we have a lot to talk about. still to come, after more than a decade, the self-proclaimed 9/11 mastermind, khalid shaikh mohammed gets ready to face a trial. he heads to arlington today.
because of the way he framed the women s issues? i would answer this a little bit different. there were all these candidates that eamericaned, bachmann, perry, newt gingrich, cain. you go on and on. but yet, only one really eamericaned as the counterpart to romney to give him a serious threat. it happened to be somebody who had much less money and name identification than the other ones. it was the sincerity with which rick spoke which means sometimes you speak indirectly and the words you choose. but people saw a realness to him and believed he had the currently to say what he really thought. i think that s why he did do so well. 11 states isn t too bad to win. you should be congratulated and the speech in iowa, the speech yesterday, there were some great speeches from rick santorum when he spoke about his family and he touched a lot of people, and people wish him well. i think you ll be hearing a lot from him, believe me. thank you very much for joining us. thank you for ha
as snowstorms is concerned. it s been a scary event as well. last night we had thunder and lightning. sirens filled the air. emergency vehicles all over the place. even though people were warned to stay home, not everybody did that. lakeshore drive was just a mess. still is with abandoned vehicles. people were stranded in their vehicles. numerous calls to fire department to get out there and help people. they were trying to get warming buss in there. last minute opening public libraries and emergency shelters to help warm these people. just absolute, absolute mess. not to mention the amount of wind that this city has endured. over 60-mile-an-hour winds. some damage across the city, including wrigley field itself. it s still a dangerous situation right now. just up the road in wisconsin, a weather several weather emergency. they are saying just do not, do not go out on the roadways. here on michigan avenue, this is typically even in a big snowstorm, they got this thing cleared. to s
