Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins launched a historic effort Thursday to overturn charges in tens of thousands of criminal cases built on drug evidence she says were tainted by rampant mismanagement and misconduct at a now-shuttered state drug lab.
Defense attorneys, academics, and staffers from across the criminal justice system gathered in a virtual meeting for Rollinsâs inaugural âHinton Lab Initiativeâ summit, embarking on a massive, yearlong attempt to remedy convictions tied to the largest drug lab scandal in US history.
FALMOUTH The man charged in the February homicide of a Mashpee woman was arraigned in Falmouth District Court on Wednesday.
Cleber O. Mariano Jr., 33, of Falmouth, was arraigned on charges of murder, assault and battery on a family/household member, strangulation and assault with intent to murder in connection with the homicide of 30-year-old Danielle Taylor.
Judge Paul G. Pino ordered that Mariano be held without bail. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for May 10, according to a statement from Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe.
Falmouth police responded Feb. 8 to the CapeWind Waterfront Resort at 34 Maravista Ave. for a well-being check after receiving a call from friends of the resident. When police arrived at the motel, they found Taylor lying unconscious on the floor.
