A Ibom Govt seeks collaboration with U S to develop Ibom Deep Seaport project

By Isaiah Eka Uyo, Feb. 9, 2021 Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom says his administration is ready to collaborate with the U.S. Government and other investors to develop the Ibom Deep Seaport project. Emmanuel, represented by Dep. Gov. Moses Ekpo, said this on Tuesday when the Chief of Political and Economic Affairs of the U.S. Consulate in Nigeria, Mr Brandon Hudspeth, visited him at the Government House, Uyo. He said the seaport when developed would become the flagship of the shipping industry in Nigeria in view of its strategic location. He said the facility was endowed with a natural draught and direct access to all parts of the world, including the U.S.

Ibom Youths FC register 33 players for 2020/2021 NNL season

By Isaiah Eka Uyo, Jan. 27, 2021 Ibom Youths Football Club of Uyo on Wednesday said they have signed on 33 players in preparation for the 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) season. Keresifon Essien, the club’s Media Officer, said in a statement that the players were selected from more than 200 players who turned up for recruitment from clubs within and outside the state. “Out of those who turned up for the club’s screening held in Uyo recently, 33 players were registered and 10 of them are new players drawn from various clubs within and outside Akwa Ibom, while the club retained 23 of the old players.

Warring communities: A Ibom govt donates relief materials worth millions

By Isaiah Eka 08039185152 Okobo (Akwa Ibom), Jan. 22, 2021 The Akwa Ibom Government, wading into the communal clashes between Okopedi and Amamong communities in Okobo Local Government Area, has called for peaceful coexistence as relief materials worth millions of naira were distributed to the victims. The State Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, made the call at Okobo during the distribution of the relief materials on Friday. Ekpo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in his office, Mr Nkopuruk Ekaiko, said that it was necessary for the warring communities to sheath their swords and tolerate one another for peace to reign. He said that with the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic already taking its toll on the economic fortunes of the State, it would be irresponsible for communities, which hitherto lived together to resort to wanton destruction.

Death of former military administrator: A Ibom Govt declares 7 days of mourning

By Isaiah Eka 08039185152 Uyo, Dec. 26, 2020 The Government of Akwa Ibom has declared a seven-day period of mourning effective from Dec. 26, over the death of Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, a former military administrator of the state, who died on Dec. 24. This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Saturday. It added that flags would be flown at half-mast throughout the period of mourning. Ekuwem in his statement said Nkanga, who was also a former leader of Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), died from complications resulting from COVID-19 infection.
