Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has expressed fears that the sudden death of the Chairman, Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, (rtd) may slow down the struggle for the total emancipation of the Niger Delta Region, stressing that, he was a strong voice of the region. He made this assertion when he visited the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, at Government House Uyo, yesterday to commiserate with him over the death of Nkanga and the State chairman of PDP, Udo Ekpenyong. According to Wike, Nkanga’s death has created a deep void in the agitation for restructuring of Nigeria in line with the principle of true federalism. By Isaiah Eka 08039185152 Uyo, Dec. 26, 2020 The Government of Akwa Ibom has declared a seven-day period of mourning effective from Dec. 26, over the death of Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, a former military administrator of the state, who died on Dec. 24. This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Saturday. It added that flags would be flown at half-mast throughout the period of mourning. Ekuwem in his statement said Nkanga, who was also a former leader of Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), died from complications resulting from COVID-19 infection.

Late Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (retd) The Akwa Ibom state government has finally confirmed the death of its first indigenous governor, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (retd) almost two days after the rumours of the demise of the elder statesman filtered out Friday morning. The government in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem on Saturday said Nkanga died December 24 from Covid-19 complications. Nkanga was until his death on Christmas eve the President Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum(PANDEF) and former Director General of the Divine Mandate Campaign organization that ushered Governor Udom Emmanuel into office in 2019.

In statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF) chairman died on Christmas eve. The statement read: “Information from the Isolation Centre, where he was admitted and managed, indicates that the first indigenous military Governor of our state and leader of PANDEF died from complications resulting from COVID-19 infection. Requisite protective protocol and contact tracing have been immediately activated. “Otuekong Nkanga was the Director General of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Divine Mandate Campaign organisation 2015 and 2019. He was also the Chairman of the Ibom Airport Development Company and Ibom Air.
