Following last year s edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) in the African continent, the yearly conference is taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This year s conference incorporates four cross-cutting themes: technology & innovation, inclusion, frontline communities and finance.
Before, during and after COP28, we will share our analysis and opinions, particularly on the cascading effects of the climate crisis and the efforts to finance climate adaptation and climate resilience.
Despite a long-standing collaboration between Africa and Europe on research and innovation (R&I) in agri-food systems, investments have been fragmented across small projects, leaving gaps in funding, knowledge exchange, and capacity development efforts. The focus on climate change adaptation is also relatively new. Cecilia D Alessandro and Hanne Knaepen provide an overview of the state-of-play of adaptation-related R&I in agri-food systems and outline three conditions to achieve tangible success for all.
