Reporter six days of deliberations in the case of Jose Ines Garcia zarate ended with a hug between the suspect and his public defender Matt Gonzalez. Two years after kate steinle was killed on pier 14, the only guilty verdict for zarate was for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The verdict that came in today was not one we were hoping for. Live at the bridge with more on the cause. Reporter thats right, janelle. Caltrans now believes they know what started those two backtoback fires on the bridge. They say the fires were likely a report result of flares left behind by caltrans maintenance workers. Now, caltrans engineers spent the day investigating those mysterious fires after a blaze broke out this afternoon. That fire occurred on the very same spot on the bridge where flames erupt edmond night. A driver captured that fire and posted a photo on twitter. After reviewing bridge Surveillance Video today and finding flare remnants at the fire scene, caltrans now feels pretty confident they know the cause. Flares were left near the eastbound number one lane and it is thought at this point in time that they are the likely cause of the fire on monday night and today. Reporter now, caltrans believes that wind may have blown those flares into the graded joint where they eventually ignited and caught fire. Now, this investigation
