in any sort of a nuclear deal. let s watch mike pompeo. we are hopeful that we will put ourselves in a position where we can do something the previous administration didn t do. right? they signed a flimsy piece of paper. we are hoping to submit a document that congress would also have a say in it, that would give the currency and the strength and elongation to the process. harris: democrats i ve talked to on the program say they are ready to step up and be part of the solution in the bipartisan manner. tell me what is happening on the hill? it s encouraging first to hear secretary pompeo say that. really, two things are going on here. one that actually has the procty practical effect to enhance the leverage when they sit down with the north koreans because they can point to us and say listen, our system of government, the congress gets a say. this has to be approved by the american people through the elected representatives. so we need a good deal.
i am. harris: 6:00 p.m. eastern, i ll be perched ready to watch. thank you. fox business network. don t miss it. we are days away from the historic face-to-face meeting between president trump and kim jong un. now the president is floating a potential white house visit for the north korean leader if that summit goes well. warning of harsher sanctions if talks fall apart. talk about a carrot stick. what can we expect? i ll talk to a lawmaker on the hill next. president trump is hopeful. but he is also going in the summit with his eyes wide open. we have seen how many inadequate agreements were struck in the past. you can be sure that president trump will not stand for a bad deal. melatonin is the body s own sleep ingredient. only remfresh uses ion-powered melatonin to deliver up to 7 hours of sleep support. number one sleep doctor recommended remfresh - your nightly sleep companion. available in the natural sleep section at walmart.
is saying he is looking for a better deal for america based on the national security which is one of the things you said they can move on. absolutely. as far as e.u. harris: that is how i understand it. justin trudeau did the same thing when we left t.p.p. he put together a deal that provided protection harris: why can t we do that? that is the big question. that is the hypocrisy of it all. the e.u. threatening the tariffs against us. let me tell you harris: mexico already put a $3 billion tariff program in place. listen to what the e.u. is going to target. cranberries. you know what the tariff is already? 22%. orange juice. harris: how much worse could it be? thank you. 23%. harris: that is a quarter of the value of what you are paying. but think where they come from. harris: these are targeting specific constituencies and specific lawmakers. right, right. harris: i know what states they come from. indiana and right. but it does harris: wait a m
complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement deal. this is encourage to hear him learn lessons of where the previous administration went wrong. the deal won t stand the test of time unless congress weighs in. president obama went a different route and signed a personal agreement with the supreme leader of iran. it evaporated. the foreign policy achievement is now tarnished and crumbled. the trump administration wants a deal to stand the test of time. it s important to work as a partner to improve the negotiating hand and ensure the deal lasts. harris: that idea of leverage is interesting with congress behind the deal. i know how divided you can be on the hill. the democrats and the republicans. some democrats are telling me they are ready to step in there alongside you. they put the deal memo if you will, some of them sent it to the president and what they would like to see done with north korea. real quickly. there was a recent survey and this is what we found.
additional sanctions. what do you make of that? i think it is encouraging to hear them talk about being willing to impose more pressure on the regime. i think it s important that the white house in general and the president in particular be prepared to walk away if necessary. i think part of the reason we negotiated a bad position with the iran deal it was obvious to everybody that obama was desperate for a deal. and would not walk away. if you want a deal badly enough, you are going to get a very bad deal. so, i hope we communicate to the north koreans that we will walk away if they are not serious about this. harris: a couple of observations. this comes after a meating with japan s leader shinzo abe. we know that abe wanted the president tougher in the maximum pressure zone. we learn the flip of coming to the white house will be 300 additional sanctions if the talks fail. but i don t want anybody to miss what the president is doing here. i want you to fill in the
