Situation for a while here that , and greg, thanks for the introduction, i do appreciate it. One of the things about the iron workers is that i think youre all crazy. [laughter] you know what i mean . I remember iron workers endorsed me early on when i first ran for the senate as a kid. A guy name tommy shrank, and i used to walk in the union all the time and say anybody whos crazy enough to walk up 16 stories on beam and shoot a rivet has to be nuts. But thank god you are. Where i grew up, you either joined a trade, you became a cop, you became a firefighter or a priest. I wasnt competent at being any one of them, so look what happened to me. [laughter] folks look, conner thank you for being here and thank you for all youve done. Ladies and gentlemen, you know, this is about more than just an election this time out. Welcome from the Natural History museum. As a nation, we face one of the most difficult moments in our history in my view. All of theic crises same time. The worst pandemic in 100 years that has already killed nearly 200,000 people and counting. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression has cost tens of millions of american jobs and counting. Emboldened White Supremacy unseen since the 1960s, and a reckoning on race that is long overdue. Acceleration, the punishing reality of Climate Change on our planet and our people, on the lives and livelihoods, which i would like to talk about now. I continue, as i suspect all of you do, pray for those in california, oregon and washington, and across the west as these devastating wildfires rage on. Just as we hold those in our hearts those who faced the hurricanes, tropical storms off the coast of florida and north carolina, or in like parts of new orleans that have been issued an emergency evacuation for hurricane sally. Floods across

And undeniable acceleration, the punishing reality of Climate Change on our planet and our people, on the lives and livelihoods, which i would like to talk about now. Jill and i continue, as i suspect all of you do, pray for those in california, oregon and washington, and across the west as these devastating wildfires rage on. Postmaster general louis dejoy, and the chairman of the postal board of governors Robert Duncan to this oversight hearing, and i thank you all for being here. In all of our districts we are hearing from constituents about significant delays in the delivery of mail, medicines, food, and other supplies. These delays are especially concerning and potentially lifethreatening during the Coronavirus Crisis. These are not isolated complaints. They are widespread. Our offices have been receiving thousands of calls and emails about the detrimental effects these delays are having on our veterans, seniors, Small Businesses, and families across the country. When we asked postal leaders about these delays they downplayed them. They dismissed them as temporary. They discounted them as a minor, unintended consequences of reforms being put in place. But then we saw National Headlines describing these delays in much more detail. I have a document here that headlines from almost every state in the count
