Today’s massive fire at a grain storage building in Cork Harbour is the third fire at the facility in recent months.

Ireland s shortcomings in its airspace policing, maritime security and cyber defence are not only problematic for our national interest but could also threaten global stability, which has led to calls for the Government and military to be more proactive when coming to terms with real and potential risks, writes our Security Correspondent Cormac O’Keeffe.
On the beat for the Gardaí no longer applies to our streets and roads as they try to take on criminal gangs who are using other means such as our waterways and islands to transport or hide drugs.
The Sligo/Leitrim Garda Division launched Operation Dualgas last Friday as it responds to the changing trends of criminality.
Operation Dualgas will have a specific focus aimed at protecting and securing the division s coastline and waterways from criminal activity.
It incorporates An Garda Síochána s national Coastal Watch strategy, and aims to work with communities to facilitate the gathering of intelligence, relating to suspicious and criminal activity along the coastline, to analyse data received and act on same accordingly.
