KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19): The main index at Bursa Malaysia recovered lost ground and climbed at the midday break today, while regional markets pulled back from all-time highs. At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI rose 3.28 points to 1,579.12. The index had earlier slipped to a low of 1,573.84. Market breadth remained cautious with 446 losers and 361 gainers, while 731 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was a brisk 9.1 billion shares valued at RM3.69 billion. The gainers included Genetec Technology Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, Unisem (M) Bhd, Batu Kawan Bhd, Nestle (M) Bhd, Mr DIY Group (M) Bhd, Tasco Bhd, Greatech Technology Bhd, Heineken Malaysia Bhd and PPB Group Bhd.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 15): The main index at Bursa Malaysia pared some of its gains at mid-morning today against the backdrop of record-high regional markets. At 10am, the FBM KLCI was up 11.82 points to 1,611.24. The index had earlier risen to a high of 1,614.92. Gainers led losers by 610 to 263, while 401 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 2.3 billion valued at RM1.07 billion. The gainers included Nestle (M) Bhd, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, ViTrox Corp Bhd, UWC Bhd, PMB Technology Bhd, Central Global Bhd and KESM Industries Bhd. Local investors are also awaiting the fourth quarter 2020 gross domestic product (GDP) data to be released by Bank Negara Malaysia on Feb 11. At 10am, the FBM KLCI was up 1.3 points at 1,587.43. The index had earlier risen to a high of 1,592.27. Losers overtook gainers by 503 to 317, while 398 counters traded unchanged. Trading volume was 1.41 billion shares valued at RM853.51 million. The gainers included Widetech (M) Bhd, PPB Group Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, RCE Capital Bhd and Ann Joo Resources Bhd.

FBM KLCI finishes up amid regional gains, Wall Street rally

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 9): The FBM KLCI rose today in line with most regional benchmark indices, following the overnight rally on Wall Street that took the US market to a new record high. The KLCI closed 12.80 points or 0.81% higher at 1,586.13, shored up by counters such as Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, MISC Bhd and Genting Malaysia Bhd. JF Apex Securities said in a note to clients that US markets rallied overnight to extend their winning streak and record highs, following a strong earnings season, progress in vaccination and stimulus talks. “Similarly, European stocks advanced amid corporate earnings and developments in coronavirus vaccination,” the research house noted.
