75-year-old woman demands N20 million compensation for alleged police brutality

A 75-year-old woman, Mrs. Janet Bajide has approached the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police brutality to demand the sum of N20 million as compensation for gunshots fired by the police in Ire-Ekiti.
Testifying before the panel, Ma Bejide who is a food vendor from IreEkiti in Oye Local Government Area said she was in her shop on August 1st, 2020 selling rice when she saw policemen shooting sporadically as they drove down the street, adding that she first thought it was teargas that they were shooting until she was hit by bullets.

Ekiti State Judicial Panelof Inquiry set up to look into cases of human rights violations by the police, on Wednesday, that she was hit by stray bullets shot by policemen at Ire Ekiti in the Oye council area of Ekiti State on August 10, 2020.
Following the incident, Mrs Bejide said she has been in severe pain and having unclear vision.

A 75 years old woman, Mrs Janet Bejide, says she is being plagued daily by headache, body pains, and unclear vision since August 10, 2020 when she was hit by stray bullets allegedly shot by policemen at Ire Ekiti in the Oye Council area of Ekiti State.
Bejide spoke on Wednesday at the Ekiti Judicial Panel of Inquiry into human rights violations by the police, which she had approached to seek N20 million compensation for the trauma she has been going through and the daily pains since the incident.
She said, “I was in my shop selling rice to my customers when suddenly there was tear-gas fired by the police. I had to cover my head with a cloth and bent my head to prevent the tear-gas from affecting me.
