(The Center Square) – The Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee advanced a bill Wednesday creating a first-degree murder charge for a person who provided fentanyl that caused the death of another.
Zaun, a Republican from Urbandale, has been working for years to ban the use of traffic cameras in Iowa; this year he has combined his legislative proposal with a hands-free device use while driving.
As written, the bill could apply to anyone convicted of first-degree murder, but lawmakers plan to amend it to pertain only to someone who murders a law enforcement officer.
