Text messages and emails from a fired Iowa police chief indicate he knowingly used his position to acquire machine guns for himself and his for-profit business.
Texts from a former Adair County police chief, who was convicted in February on several federal weapon charges, suggest he knowingly abused his power to acquire weapons for profit.
IPERS: The forms were completely accurate
Despite the decision to reissue corrected documents, officials insist the forms were completely accurate.
That s because the wording and layout were correct, and official IRS instructions do not refer to the form s box numbers, Iowa Public Employees Retirement System spokeswoman Shawna Lode said. If you can read the heading on the 1099 form and the heading on the tax form, they will match, Lode said.
She said the agency is advising retirees not to wait for the new forms before filling out their returns, although they may want to print out the notice if they are working with a tax preparer.
