Famous Urdu writer and critic Shamim Hanfi has passed away in New Delhi after battling with coronavirus-related complications. He was 82 years of age.
Hanfi had tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago after which he was shifted to a local hospital in New Delhi. He passed away on Thursday evening.
Hanfi was born on November 17, 1938, in the Indian city of Sultanpur. He graduated from Allahabad University and Aligarh Muslim University after which he joined the academia.

Veteran Pakistani scriptwriter and host Anwar Maqsood has quarantined himself at home after he was tested positive for coronavirus.
According to the
Daily Jang, the 85-year-old literary figure Anwar Maqsood was tested positive for COVID-19 last week and he has quarantined himself at home.
Anwar was last seen during 13th International Urdu Conference at Arts Council of Pakistan earlier this month.
Earlier, there were reports that Anwar Maqsood has requested fans to pray for his health as he undergoes treatment at home.

Around 4,500 registered voters of the Arts Council of Pakistan participated in the biennial elections of the council’s office-bearers on Sunday.
The candidates belonged to different walks of life and fields of arts. In recent years, the Arts Council has played a crucial role in the development of art and culture of the city. Even during 2020, when cultural activities seemed to have come to a standstill in Karachi owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the council managed to continue with multiple theatre festivals and other programmes, including the International Urdu Conference.
