UK government creates pipeline of growth for tech SMEs in Nigeria The UK government is providing support to 10 start-ups to receive capacity building training, mentorship, and pitch to industry experts and government partners. From: 10 June 2021 Designed to empower early-stage Nigerian start-ups that are solving challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK government, in January through the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub launched it’s iNOVO Accelerator Programme. This programme is for 10 early stage start-ups building innovative solutions to tackle the challenges caused by COVID-19 across the Education, Agriculture and Health sector in Nigeria. In partnership with StartupBootcamp Afritech and Ventures Platform as implementing partners, this 3-month virtual programme afforded the top 10 selected start-ups an opportunity to receive capacity building and learn start-up training, mentorship and support to scale, their products and business models rapidly.

To promote your brand via Brand Press, please email [email protected] Two months ago, the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub with Dufuna as the implementing partner launched the Design School programme- a virtual programme for 30 aspiring product designers aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to kick-start a career in tech. With over 1500 applications received, successful candidates were onboarded for the virtual programme were amongst others, they learnt how to identify, and design solutions for customers. By employing a problem-based learning method, participants of the programme were able to apply the theories and principles they learnt by competing to win the bid for the design of an online restaurant reservation and food ordering system for a fictitious client. 

EU Donates 1, 300 Baking, Tailoring, Others to Borno Residents

The European Union (EU) has begun distributing livelihood kits to 1, 370 youth beneficiaries across Borno State. Declaring the distribution open at the State Agency for Mass Education (SAME) premises, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum commended the EU and Plan International for their generosity to the people of Borno state. A statement by PLAN International said the governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Engr. Abbah Yusuf, urged the beneficiaries to avoid the temptation of selling off the kits donated to them. He said: “I am sure this will help to boost the economy of our state and help the youth to be self-reliant. To the beneficiaries, I urge you all to make the best use of this opportunity and not to sell these items. Make sure you are serious in the trade for which you have been trained, and make it beneficial for you and your immediate families.”
