CAS rejects negligent Thailand s attempt to overturn weightlifting doping ban Monday, 19 April 2021
Thailand has failed in its attempt to overturn its suspension from weightlifting and to challenge the principle of member federations being held responsible for the actions of its athletes and coaches.
In a 52-page ruling which carries huge significance for the weightlifting world, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Thailand s arguments and the nation remains suspended.
The decision was welcomed today by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
CAS upheld a decision by an independent panel that Thailand had brought weightlifting into disrepute through a doping scandal.

(ATR) The IOC appears to have run out of patience with the International Weightlifting Federation.

IOC President Thomas Bach, speaking after the latest Executive Board (EB) meeting on Feb. 24, said the situation with the IWF is “becoming more and more grave” and that the federation faces the possibility of being thrown out of the Olympic program if it doesn t act now to repair its governance and anti-doping failures.
“The EB expressed its extreme concern particularly by the lack of significant changes with regard to the management and the culture there in IWF,” Bach says.
