there is some sort of resolution on all of this imminent. steve harrigan joins us now streaming live from cairo with the latest. steve, do you think that we could see some kind of compromise today on this? reporter: martha, we are certainly hearing sound from the presidential teamsh to reace opposition in a push for a possible compromise. what we re likely to see in the next 90 minutes here is a meeting between egypt s president and some top judges here inside cairo. judges across the country have gone on strike. they say the president tried to put himself above the law. we could see some scaling back from a presidential team that has been surprised by the angry reaction to the move by president morsi, martha. martha: such a key moment for the future of egypt. what happens if they fail to reach any kind of compromise here? reporter: well for the past four days we ve already seen violence in the streets not only here in cairo but other egyptian cities as
many offices are closed around here as there is a possibility now of a ground offensive. all around location we re in, a mile or so from the gaza border, these fields are filled with platoons. we ve seen the arrest tailry out here getting ready for a possible ground offensive. the thing that would possibly stop that are the cease fire talks going on inside cairo and obviously secretary of state hillary clinton s visit here over the next 24 to 36 hours may delay a ground invasion. the question is, is it enough to actually get a cease fire deal on the table and signed between hamas jihad, and israel here on the other side. guys? steve: a lot of moving parts. what do you know about apparently earlier today an employee at the u.s. embassy in tel aviv was apparently stabbed by somebody. what s up with that? exactly. what it appears to be is that a local jewish man here, an israeli was upset h a personal beef with someone who was a
about 20 seconds from the time the vines go off to the time that there is an interception or things land here. right now we are hearing booms over head. those are most likely interceptions of flying out of gaza to other cities. currently on the border with gaza right now is some 30,000 reservists who have been called up a n israeli tanks armored personnel carriers and infantry soldiers waiting for the go for a ground defensive we are told could come anywhere in the next 24-48-hours. that would be a major first time gaza troops headed to gaza in four years. peace talks are ongoing inside cairo right now. we are told there is an israeli envoy from the table somebody from hamas and islamic jihad too early to tell whether everyone will let things calm down people can go back to work school or if we are going to have a ground war things like this could go on
9/11 on tuesday, yesterday was wednesday, today being thursday of the main protests here in cairo outside the u.s. embassy, and we are bracing for friday which is expected to be a major day of protest here inside cairo. still tonight 7 p.m. local time there are flames on the streets of cairo outside the u.s. embassy as now the egyptian police and military seem to have at least reinforced the compound from our position. you could count at least about a dozen armored vehicles that the police are using the try and respond to the protesters coming out of tahrir square which is the place that you remember the revolution started here in egypt. there were hundreds, if not thousands of protesters in the streets, and you can tell people here are viscerally angry, a very different feel than any of the protests we ve covered here in egypt over the past year and a half. there s an anger here, on the streets and, obviously, megyn, there s a violence and anti-americanism that has now pressen in a si
