developing news out of egypt at this hour, late afternoon there now, the protests are continuing in the heart of cairo and the protesters there are demanding that president mubarak step down. opposition leader mohammed elbaradei says mubarak must leave the country before the opposition will agree to talks about the government s future. a dangerous, destructive winter storm is making its way across the country at this hour. blizzard warnings are now in effect in at least nine states. 100 million americans are in the path of this storm and we will have more on it in just a moment. the opening bell just rang on wall street. nervous investors watching the markets closely today after the unrest in egypt pushed oil prices way up on monday. first, let s check with the massive storm in the midwest, forcing some major cities to basically shut down today. ice has closed the main airport in dallas, huge hub for american airlines, while a blizzard of historic proportions is threatening to
brian williams, anchor and managing editor of nbc news is live from cairo where he spoke to a man who maybe the next leader of egypt. brian? that is right, chuck, savannah, good morning. we talked to mohamed elbaradei, the noble laureate born here in cairo. he has lived elsewhere for a number of years. he has come back here to some fanfare. in effect, it is effect to say presenting himself as the kind of logical, clear-eyed alternative to run this country, perhaps heading a coalition a coalition, a loose one at that. we have seen pictures of him for days and days now, always in the same venue, mobbed by the crowds in the square without a public address system, without a way of being seen, except for the hundred or so people around him and i asked him today what that was like, to be surrounded by and to see so many people.
