absolutely. so the question is why was paul manafort sharing this information, why was he so in touch with the russians. who else knew about all of these interactions? was this confined to paul manafort and his deputy rick gates? or is this something that spread to other levels of the campaign? is this going to be the beginning of the answer to whether there was any collusion, or is this still a small part? we still have questions about what s going to happen to roger stone. we still have questions about whether there was any foreign money that made its way into the campaign. we ve seen little inklings of these things along the way, but no broader answer or narrative on those issues from robert mueller. this may be winding down, but still a lot of big unanswered questions out there. one answered question now, actually, is that this is tantalizing. and yes, i blame adobe. great to see you guys.
somehow and we don t know how yet, it will circle back to the campaign collusion. that will be an interest deve p development. i think it brings up an important point. there s five people that have admitted to lying. there s been other indictments i don t think that circle of folks. donald trump s lawyer sent out this tweet this morning. h it misses the point that mueller s crew has no evidence of collusion. along the way he is keeping america safe from false statement makers or people with faulty memories. daniel, does he have a point? can they legitimately make an argument so far this looks like a whole lot of line? rudy giuliani and donald trump are playing with fire here because they keep making conclusive determinations about what evidence robert mueller doesn t have. they have no idea. we have no idea. what we re starting to see are just inklings of little bits and
looks like a very broad cover i mean we have a very broad confabulation of forwards this and you know in order for these things to be brought to light you would need a lot of political will both inside the church and outside and generally speaking i mean the church is an institution that for better words have sexually enjoyed the trust of a lot of not only political groups and the church itself of course its own members but the public this put it in a position that would be institution in position that was actually quite safe to continue operating this way you know the church is supposed to be a moral authority now we re talking about serious crimes here raping children do we have any guaranteed that prosecutors law enforcement authorities in this country will use the full force of the law to go after the perpetrators i don t think we have learned to use i mean especially not based on the recent history of this affair and how governments around the world really including germany have r
are enough. the big outstanding question, i think, at this moment, and you asked this, is will dr. ford agree to testify publicly? if she says no, i think kavanaugh is fine. i think kavanaugh will go through. if she says yes and the committee then declines to hear from her, that s a big problem for the committee and for kavanaugh. there s an on-the-record vote on this, and what pressure does this put them under? i understand you can make the case, we do not believe her. but if you feel it s a credible allegation, if you are one of the senators, how do you justify your vote? yeah, that s the thing. so far, i mean, you kind of hear inklings of they are questioning the timing, and it s all political and she has donations
not let the allegations slow them down. they still plan to hold a committee vote for him next thursday followed by a possible confirmation vote later this month. joining me now is jane mayer. i had heard inklings and rumors about this letter for a while. it was hard to know what to do with the information. you reported this out. let s start with this. what, to the best of your knowledge in your reporting, what does she allege happened to her when she was in high school in the letter? what she alleges is that she was at a party and brett kavanaugh was there too. she he had been drinking. they she went upstairs, and he and another boy who you ve now named followed her into a bedroom, shut the door, locked it, kavanaugh according to her forced himself onto her, held her down. and when she screamed, the boys turned up music so she couldn t be heard and she alleges that kavanaugh put his hand over her mouth to try to stop her from screaming. she then managed to get herself freed from
