Newly elected Southbury councillor Ayten Guzel A newly elected councillor has pledged to work hard to continue the legacy of her predecessor who passed away last year. Cllr Ayten Guzel won a seat in Southbury ward with a 13.8 per cent majority for Labour in a by-election held on Thursday. The poll took place following the death of long-serving Labour councillor Chris Bond in July. After being elected, Cllr Guzel posted on Twitter: “I am truly honoured to have been elected as the new councillor for Southbury ward. “Thank you to the Labour activists who campaigned and, most importantly, the Southbury residents who voted for me. I will work hard to carry Cllr Chris Bond’s legacy. May you rest in peace Chris.”

Newly elected Jubilee councillor Chinelo Anyanwu Labour comfortably held on to a safe seat in Jubilee ward but saw its share of the vote fall as more voters backed smaller parties. Newly elected ward councillor Chinelo Anyanwu pledged to “work hard for a community that’s given me so much” after winning Thursday’s by-election. The poll was held after the resignation of Labour’s Bernadette Lappage last year. It was one of three Enfield Council seats up for grabs in by-elections that took place following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Enfield Civic Centre Seven candidates are running for a seat on Enfield Council in the upcoming by-election in Southbury. The election was called following the death of long-serving Labour ward councillor Chris Bond in July last year. Local elections were postponed following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic but have been allowed to go ahead from May. The Southbury by-election will take place on Thursday, May 6, alongside the mayoral and London Assembly elections. The candidates standing for election in Southbury are:

A by-election will take place in the ward on Thursday, May 6, following the resignation of Labour’s Bernadette Lappage. Labour won a large majority in Jubilee at the 2018 local elections, with the top Conservative candidate more than 1,300 votes away from winning a seat. The candidates in the running this year are:
