Vacant Unit Rebate Program
At the April 6 committee-of-the-whole meeting, Hanover council received an Elimination of Vacant Unit Rebate Program report, and requested a bylaw be presented at the next council meeting to eliminate the program in Hanover.

Since 2001, the provincial vacancy unit rebate (VUR) program has provided eligible commercial and industrial properties the ability to apply for a 30 per cent and 35 per cent rebate of the property taxes, respectively.
This program was originally implemented as a short-term aid to property owners in difficult economic times, however, many owners have seen this rebate used over many years.
