North Carolina Department of Commerce
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced earlier in December that
North Carolina s Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) has approved 30 grant requests to local governments totaling $12,969,015, most of which will require either new construction or building renovations. [These] Rural Infrastructure Authority grants help our cities, towns and counties address critical infrastructure needs like buildings, water and sewer so they can attract new, good-paying jobs, Cooper said. When we invest in rural communities, we are demonstrating that North Carolina is open for business with the tools and workforce to help companies compete globally.
At least 30 state grants totaling nearly $13 million have been approved for local governments so business and industry locations can be prepared or can be expanded and create numerous jobs.
And a significant part of that money, $980,000, is going to go to four locations in the Twin Counties.
Specifically, $790,000 in grants are for buildings to be renovated for re-usage and a $190,000 grant is for a business already in the area and with plans to expand a building.
Gov. Roy Cooper made the announcement in a news release.
The list in Cooperâs news release includes three locations the Telegram has previously reported that the Rocky Mount-based Carolinas Gateway Partnership was seeking grants with the authorization of the city government.

HERTFORD â Two grants to Perquimans County totaling $1.69 million are among $12.9 million in N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority grants announced Thursday by Gov. Roy Cooper.
Perquimans was awarded a $190,000 Building Reuse Program grant for a 14,000-square-foot expansion of the existing facility of East Coast Steel Fabrication Inc.
The manufacturer of custom marine structures, buildings and boats plans to add 28 jobs in connection with the expansion. The overall project represents an investment by the company of $482,202.
County Manager Frank Heath explained that the existing 5,000-square-foot metal building had been built and sold to a boat builder but never used. East Coast Steel Fabrication acquired the building in July 2019 and has been in the process of moving its operations to the site from its previous location in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia, he said.
The N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority said Thursday it has approved providing a combined $3.94 million in grant funding to several Triad government entities to assist 12 economic-development projects.
Forsyth County received $130,000 toward the reuse of a vacant 65,000-square-foot building in Winston-Salem by Addiction Recovery Care Association Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides drug and alcohol treatment services.
The group expects to create 13 jobs and spend $1.13 million in capital investments on the project.
The N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation posted on Oct. 8 that it had given three conditional certificate-of-need approvals to Addiction Recovery Care involving the transfer of a series of treatment beds.
