Covid-19: Number of cases in Sarawak rising due to infections during gatherings

Covid-19: Malaysia continues to show improvement in infectivity rates, says Health Minister

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (pic) said this was due to the people’s compliance with Covid-19 SOPs and preventive measures throughout the second movement control order. “Based on our modelling, the infectivity rate (R0) is currently at 0.87 compared to 0.9 two weeks ago. “Our projections show that if the downward trend goes on and people continue to follow the SOPs, the number of cases will go down to 500 cases a day in May. “But if people do not adhere to the SOPs, the infectivity rate could go up to 1.1 and that would make daily cases increase again. “So I am pleading with the public to continue following Covid-19 SOPs and help break this chain of infection, ” said Dr Adham at a joint press conference with Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on the latest updates of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Covid-19: Sarawak sees downward trend in infectivity rate

6:59 PM MYT SIBU: The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0) in Sarawak went down from 1.41 on Jan 14 to 0.96 as of Tuesday (Feb 9). The state s daily case tally also dropped from 255 cases on Jan 14 to 101 cases on Tuesday, state Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing ( pic) told a press conference on Wednesday (Feb 10). With control measures in place, the R0 stayed at 1.0 until yesterday (Feb 9) when it dropped to 0.96. Hopefully this (downward) trend will continue but we need to work together with all the control measures and SOPs to keep it below 1.0 and control this outbreak, he said. State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who chaired the press conference, said the improvement was because everyone had been complying with the SOP.
