It took note of recent newspaper records of overcrowding during Christmas Eve and on Christmas. The division bench of Justice Kausik Chanda and Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya delivered the directive on a PIL asking for a ban on the sale and use of crackers tomorrow and during New Year celebrations. On Christmas Eve and Christmas, there was a huge crowd on Park Street, the traditional year-end party place, making the police close traffic movement at 5pm and make the full road available to the people.
