from the file and is found in what s called indirect civil contempt, a violation of the court order outside immediate presence of the court. a judge ordered stoddard to hold a press conference and publicly apologize for removing the document from her file or else go to jail. attorney craig marins represented the defense attorney s interest at the hearing on the order to show cause. he agrees with what the judge decided. i thought his ruling was very thoughtful and i thought his sanction really made sense, made common sense. all he said is just say you re sorry. that s all you have to do. but that s not what happens. judge donahue has ordered me to feel something i do not. he has ordered me to say something i cannot. i think it was incredible, just because he was very defiant. i cannot and will not apologize for putting court safety first. the judge has therefore put me in a position where i must lie or go to jail.
