Navjeet Sandhu, 22, was fatally stabbed with a knife by a fellow Indian student when he attempted to intervene in a fight between some Indian students in Melbourne, Australia.
The ban was reported by the Sydney Morning Herald two days before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese signed a migration deal to "promote the exchange of students, graduates, researchers and business people".
Ironically, the restrictions were put in place by one university just a few days after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese travelled to India to "celebrate Australia's educational ties and to announce a new agreement with Australian universities and colleges".
A delegation from the University of Melbourne touched down in Mumbai on Thursday to launch a new Bachelor of Science Dual Degree with the University of Madras, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (Hyderabad).
