Aequs Private Limited is developing a 400-acre toy manufacturing cluster at Koppal in Karnataka at an investment of
$500 million, its Chairman Aravind Melligeri said. Toy industry globally is a $90 billion-market and Indian market size is about $ 1.7 billion, he said.
India imports $1.2 billion worth of toys annually, mostly from China and the toy cluster being developed is to raise domestic manufacturing. China exports $20 billion worth of toys and recreation goods annually, he said.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Toy Fair 2021 today through video conference. Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of Textiles Smt Smriti Irani also participated in the event. The Toy Fair will be held from 27th February to 2nd March 2021. More than 1,000 exhibitors participated in the fair.
The Prime Minister interacted with toy makers from Channapatna in Karnataka, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, and Jaipur in Rajasthan. Through this Toy fair, the Government and the Industry shall come together to discuss how India can be made the next global hub for manufacturing and sourcing of toys by way of attracting investments in the sector and promoting exports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the India Toy Fair 2021 via video conferencing. Toys play a significant part in the development of a child s mind and also help improve psychomotor and cognitive skills in children. In his Mann ki Baat address in August 2020, the Prime Minister had said that toys not only augment activity but also give flight to aspirations, read the press release by Prime Minister s Office.
Noting the importance of toys in the holistic development of a child, the Prime Minister has earlier also emphasized boosting toy manufacturing in India. The India Toy Fair 2021 is being organized in line with this vision of the Prime Minister.

Lattu (spinning top) teaches us gravity and balance, gullel (slingshot) teaches us potential and kinetic energy, said PM Modi inaugurating the virtual India Toy Fair 2021 via video conference.
The PM said that a jhunjhuna (rattle) helps a newborn feel the circular motion. Puzzle toys develop strategic thinking and problem-solving. Similarly, newborns begin to feel the circular movement by playing with jhunjhuna , said the PM.
Interacting with toymakers from across the country, the PM said that the display of toys reminds him of his childhood days.
