Congress Rajya Sabha member Syed Naseer Hussain conducts the last rites of Prof Savitri Vishwanathan who died of Covid on May 5 BENGALURU: Syed Naseer Hussain, a Congress Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, performed the last rites of a Brahmin professor who died due to Covid-19 on May 5. On Tuesday, he immersed the professor’s ashes at Paschima Vahini near Srirangapatna. Prof Savitri Vishwanathan, 80, a researcher of Japanese language, history and politics, was former head of the department of Chinese and Japanese Studies in Delhi University. With Savitri’s younger sister Mahalakshmi Atreyi battling for life in another hospital, Syed performed the rituals the same day. She had moved to Bengaluru after retirement.
