External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has criticised Canada s decision to issue visas to people with links to organised crime, despite warnings from New Delhi. He stated that some Canadians with "pro-Pakistan leanings" have organized themselves politically and become an influential political lobby. Jaishankar criticized the rise of pro-Khalistactivities in Canada and the arrest of three Indians over their alleged involvement in the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The interference was aimed at aligning Canada’s position with India regarding supporters of an independent Sikh homeland, according to a public inquiry report.
A report by Ottawa's Commissioner has accused India of influencing Canadian communities and politicians, alleging attempts to align policies with Indian interests, particularly on Khalistani separatism.
