paid for and cultivated and supported islamist mujahadine, and it is that movement that gave birth to al qaeda. a lot of people will dispute that, but that is the prime minister s claim, and no indication that pakistan is going to go in a new direction. very defensive prime minister today. and saying that the bombing in tora bora meant na some of the members of pakistan headed into the area as well. and reza, you may not give me an answer, but folks want to know if the head of the bureau at pakistan outed the cia chief that was there overwatching the bin laden compound, and what can you tell me? well, that is an episode that drives home some of the troubles that pakistan and the u.s. are facing. this was an article that came out in the pakistani newspaper, and allegedly named, and therefore outed the cia station chief here in islamabad. and once you blow a cia station
three wives and the eight or nine children and send them back home. one is from yemen and not clear where the others are from. and obviously the u.s. wants access to the wives, because they could have a lot of information and could have information that could also implicate pakistan s security establishment and the pakistani official told us that they will only consider giving the u.s. access to these women once their origin countries have been notified, and it is not clear when that will happen, but it is going to be a barometer of where this partnership stands between the u.s. and pakistan. if they deny washington access to these women, you can be sure that there is going to be more finger pointing and more accusations. reza sayah, live in islamabad, thank you. and with regard to the whole compound that was raided the cia says it could fill a small college library with the sea of intelligence that the navy s.e.a.l.s snagged from the compound, but time is of the

it has a vast military. it s playing a very important, strategic role in central asia. it s troubling scenario. i m curious. i was reading in islamabad, there s a demonstration by about 300 people that have less to do with the significance of osama bin laden s death than just being generally anti-american. in it s rhetoric and the message they were sending. how does the u.s. go about trying to win over the hearts and minds of the pakistani people? it s very difficult. one of the biggest problems we have is that we re fighting against the pakistani government right now. the pakistani government instead coming out and saying, look, osama bin laden is killing innocent pakistanis. it wasn t great to have a violation of our sovereignty but he s our enemy. you have the pakistani government saying this is unacceptable, the americans have violated our borders. do you think they re doing that to the pakistani citizens. i think they re doing it to a very small minority of people
priority was trying to make sure that there was a pulse that you can suss out from what s there. were you surprised that he was in a compound, in a mansion only a two-hour drive from islamabad opposed to a cave in that mountainous area, that tribal area in the northwest part of pakistan. as you know, we believed for a long time he was in that mountainous tribal area and moving around. it actually makes perfect sense that bin laden would have played the deliberate decision. we know the building of this mansion started five years ago. and what did bin laden know? we ve seen news by the u.s. government of predator drones mostly used in rural areas. hard to use them in urban built-up areas because you worry about collateral damage. the fact that there was a real dispute including going back to the bush administration, the pakistani government did not want the u.s. government to put
