good morning, and thanks for joining us on this memorial day. i m dara brown. extreme weather striking on this holiday weekend. six people have been killed, and dozens more injured, after deadly storms slammed through parts of the central united states. in oklahoma, an ef-3 tornado tore through el reno leaving a trail of debris in its wake more than 100 miles wide. a second twister spawned in tulsa, with speeds over 80 miles an hour. we have more from our affiliate kfor, in el reno with the latest. reporter: take a look at this debris already piling up after an ef-3 tornado ripped through el reno oklahoma, we know the storm hit late saturday night and residents tell us they did not even see it coming. as we take a walk over here, here is the motel that was severely hit. the second story, collapsed. behind it, a trailer park. where people say they were clinging to their lives. one man said it was a sound that
it s already been a violent 24 hours. at least 30 reported tornadoes. this enormous one striking magnum, oklahoma. torrential rain and flash flooding in sedgwick county, kansas. treacherous driving. more torrential rain on the way tonight. we watched today as emergency crews conducted water rescues on live television. this scene playing out in el reno, oklahoma. this whole system on the move tonight. we re also watching severe weather now in the forecast for the northeast. meteorologist rob marciano leads us off from oklahoma tonight. oh, [ bleep ], it hit the house. get that! reporter: tonight, tornadoes threatening the heartland, as torrential rains submerge cars, forcing high water rescues. in el reno, oklahoma, first responders searching for the stranded, using high water vehicles to pull families from homes. some five feet of fast-moving water in spots. children carried to safety. parts of major interstate 40 under water. railroad tracks washed away. if you re seeing this,

in el reno directly in the path of friday s twister, the clean-up just beginning. the tornado tore down the only home angela cobble has ever known. i really loved my home. this house is 117 years old. it was like we are okay. it is going to be fine. and, you know it s just not. reporter: mother nature s rage is being felt across the country. the violent wind ripped apart homes in the st. louis area and in gillespie, illinois, a storm wiped out an entire gymnasium, creating a terrifying sound many here say they will never forget. like a bomb went off. windows busted. glass stuck in walls. reporter: here in oklahoma, it is not just the tornados but also the rain. joetta carter woke up to find her home of 25 years under water. we do have our lives. i feel sort of guilty for feeling bad. reporter: as for the sinkhole, authorities say it will likely be several days before it is filled. and the street here returns to normal. alex perez, abc news, oklahoma
