9th International Maritime Conference kicks off in Karachi

KARACHI, Pakistan: The three-day 9th International Maritime Conference (IMC-21) kicked off in Karachi on Saturday under the auspices of the Pakistan Navy.
The three-day Conference is being organized by the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) from February 13-15, 2021 under the theme “Development of Blue Economy under a Security and Sustainable Environment – A Shared Future for Western Indian Ocean Region”.
The IMC-21 is being held in tandem with the ongoing 7th Multinational Maritime Exercise “AMAN-21”.
The President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi graced the Opening Session of the Conference as the Chief Guest.
Russian PD-14 Engine for MC-21 Airliner passes ICAO Emission Certification Test Our Bureau 2494

The PD-14 engine designed to power Russia’s MC-21 airliner has cleared emission tests conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The corresponding addition to the PD-14 type certificate was received by UEC-Aviadvigatel, United Engine Corporation (UEC) said in a statement.
PD-14 was first certified by the Federal Air Transport Agency in 2018 and at that time complied with ICAO standards. In January 2020, a new international standard came into force, in which the smoke and emission standards of non-volatile particles were changed - this required additional certification, UEC said.

Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is working on a new version of the country’s first passenger aircraft, Superjet 100, under its SSJ New Project.
Under the project, foreign-made systems and components of the aircraft will be replaced with domestic ones, including jet engines. The new Superjet will be powered by Russian PD-8 engine.

Some of these domestic systems are already undergoing tests, Rostec said in a statement. Superjet was created in deep cooperation of the domestic aviation industry with foreign companies. In the early 2000s, most domestic manufacturers of systems and avionics were not yet ready to supply components for the SSJ100, which could be certified according to tougher aviation regulations, including foreign ones.
