Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan virtually participated at the inauguration ceremony for three Afghanistan-Turkmenistan joint projects on Thursday morning at the Presidential Palace.
In the ceremony, the high-ranking officials of Turkmenistan were also connected, a statement from the presidential palace said yesterday.
The inaugurated projects included the Aqeena-Andkhoy railway, Karki-Andkhoy-Pole Khumari 500KV power transmission line, and Imamnazar-Aqeena-Sarhadabad-Torghundi fiber optics line, according to the statement.

ASHKABAD: Afghanistan and Turkmenistan inaugurated new transport, power and communications links on Thursday as President Ashraf Ghani and Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov participated via teleconference in opening ceremonies for a new branch of the railway connecting the two countries, a new power transmission line and a fibre optic line.
A 500 kilovolt, 153-kilometre power transmission line connecting Kerki, Turkmenistan, to Sheberghan, Afghanistan, is the first leg of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power project part-financed by the Asian Development Bank. Afghanistan’s fourth largest city, Mazar-i-Sharif, is among the cities slated to receive Turkmen electricity.

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan: Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have inaugurated new transport, power and communications links, Turkmenistan said on Thursday, as the ex-Soviet republic touts its role rebuilding Afghanistan’s conflict-torn economy.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani launched new infrastructure facilities, namely, Akina-Andkhoy railway, built in Afghanistan at the expense of the Turkmen side, a power line and two fiber-optic communication lines.
The commissioning of these facilities will expand the opportunities for effective utilization of the transit and transport potential of the two states, their interaction in the energy and communication sectors, and integration into the system of modern international economic relations.
