The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrests of students of the Kwara State University (KWASU) for alleged internet fraud. The anti-graft agency said its Ilorin Zonal Command personnel arrested 48 students and two others for offences bordering on internet fraud. The agency said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in their various hideouts after days of surveillance and fruitful intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences.
The management of Kwara State University has reacted to the raids of some private hostels housing their students in Malete town, saying it will not condone the manhandling of the school’s bonafide students. The raids were carried out in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State by operatives of both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency over the last few days.
