WIU School of Ag honors six alumni on department s 101st anniversary By Lissette Cavazos, Office of University Relations, WIU MACOMB In a tradition started during the Western Illinois University School of Agriculture s 100th anniversary, six alumni have been chosen as the 2021 School of Agriculture Distinguished Alumni. Ten alumni were recognized last year: Mark McCully, Gerry Salzman, Jeff Galle, Terry Kestner, Taylor Steinburg, Gordon Roskamp, Monte Lowderman, Chris Wilson, Martin E. O Connor and Philip E. Bradshaw. The 100th year anniversary event was a huge success, said School of Agriculture Director Andy Baker. The highlight of the evening was the recognition of our 10 distinguished alumni who were honored that night. All of these individuals have achieved remarkable feats in their careers and are huge supporters of the School of Agriculture. It was great to have our current students hear about their experiences at WIU, and how these experiences provided the foundation

WIU School of Ag Transitions Grant Funding to Aid with Remote Learning - Western Illinois University News

January 20, 2021 MACOMB, IL – A yearly donation from the Illinois Farm Bureau, earmarked for student development projects in Western Illinois University s School of Agriculture, has been transitioned because of the COVID-19, and used to purchase technology to enhance remote student learning. School of Agriculture Director Andy Baker said he asked Illinois Farm Bureau representatives to revise spending requirements for the funding after the pandemic hindered the ability of students to travel or participate in traditional development activities. They graciously agreed to allow us to spend $2,500, so we have purchased several new devices to enhance remote teaching and learning, said Baker. Seventy-five percent of the School of Ag s curriculum is traditionally taught in a face-to-face format, but the pandemic necessitated that half of each class is now logging in remotely. The annual event that was scheduled for February 6th and 7th next month draws an average of more than 150 vendors and offers networking opportunities for many nationwide ag mechanic students with up to 5,000 people attending. The 2022 event is set for February 5-6.
