Macomb, Ill- Illinois State Police District 14 Commander, Captain John Dively, has announced the ISP will conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols in Hancock and Henderson Counties during November. Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols allow the ISP to focus on safety belt and child safety seat laws. Under Illinois law, all passengers in a vehicle are required to wear a seatbelt. Seatbelts are still one of the most effective safety devices in vehicles, estimated to save nearly 14,000 lives each year. Half of vehicle occupants killed in accidents were not properly wearing a seatbelt. The goal of this program is to increase occupant restraint compliance through education, child seat inspections, and enforcement.

According to a news release, ACE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. Officers working the detail will be on the lookout for drivers operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, as well as Driving under the Influence, Safety Belt and Child Restraint use, Speeding, Distracted Driving, and All Illinois Vehicle Code and Criminal Violations. The Fairfield City Council will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 11 at 6:00pm at city hall, with a public hearing to take place prior to the meeting at 5:50pm. The public hearing is in regard to rezoning property at 1010 West Court & 110 NW 11th streets and bid opening for sale of city owned property. In routine business the council will discuss an ordinance for the sale of city owned property, for the auxiliary police building, and ordinance to rezone property from an R-2 to a B-3 Zone, ordinance for a TIF Agreement with B-Way Design & Decorating LLC, and an ordinance on risk management insurance. Other items on the agenda include a street closing request for the Christmas Parade to be held on December 3rd at 5:00pm, a request to use recreation funds for the Christmas Parade, and discussion/approval concerning a request for water line extension.
