A couple of road work projects will get underway after the Labor Day holiday. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Friday that pavement patching on U.S. Highway 34, between the Interstate 74 interchange and Knox County Road 1925N will begin on Tuesday. Additionally, pavement patching will be getting started on the same day along Illinois Route 41 between Swing Boulevard and Main Street in Galesburg. Both projects will require intermittent lane closures while the IL 41 project will involve curb repairs. Both projects are expected to wrap up by October. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. To avoid the work area, when feasible, the use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
