India News: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras Zanzibar, enthused by “positive response” to its courses launched six months ago, has decided to triple it
The IITs were conceived and established as contributors to the human resource development of the nation. This is iterated in the “Indian” foundation of their name, the IIT, and a sign in the main building of IIT Kharagpur that reads “Dedicated to the Service of the Nation” underscores this national imperative.
The entrance exam for these programmes is based on an eligibility test and personal interview, conducted by IIT Madras. The first batch currently has nearly 50 students (30 in BS, around 15 in MTech).
A permanent campus will be built soon jointly by the government of Zanzibar and the government of India. At present, a campus is located in Bweleo district, which is approximately 15 km south of Zanzibar Town
