Jul 21, 2021 Cabinet Looks at COVID, Trafficking in Persons and Municipal Boundaries In this week’s cabinet meeting, Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat reported on the rising number of COVID-19 detections, sought approval for restrictions which will come into effect at the start of next week.  Minister of the Public Service, Henry Charles Usher, reported on the redistricting exercise. Cabinet gave its approval for an exercise for the re-delineation of municipal boundaries for Dangriga, Corozal, Orange Walk, San Pedro, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, Benque Viejo and Punta Gorda towns. This is in support of a 2012 request by the Belize Mayors’ Association to re-delineate municipal boundaries. Also discussed was the June 2021 Trafficking in Persons Report. The P.U.P. went from controlling three full councils to majority control of all nine. The U.D.P. was left with only two seats in the west where the P.U.P., after many years, was able to make dent in the red hills of the towns by securing five councilor seats.  As our wrap up of the municipal elections, we take a cursory look at the results from the elections. Mar 4, 2021 Earl Trapp That twinkle of red was Mayor Earl Trapp and U.D.P. councillor Bernadette Fernandez. Fernandez narrowly made the cut by ten votes while Mayor Trapp won over the P.U.P.’s Ramon “Monchi” Quiroz by twenty-four votes. The five other councillors are from the P.U.P. slate. Even before the new mixed council took office today, on Wednesday night during his victory speech, Mayor Trapp spoke of how he intends to deal with the obvious differences between the mayor and the councillors.   Earl Trapp, Mayor, San Ignacio/Santa Elena “They will not take me out of my game.
