Restaurant menu items are among the most popular requests of Idea Alley. But they're also least likely to be fulfilled. This is in part because restaurant chefs and owners are understandably protective and secretive about their recipes. It is also because transforming a recipe from restaurant quantity to family meal can be nearly impossible.
Last week's column was filled with copycats of recipes from beloved Tontitown restaurants. This week we turn to Central Arkansas with favorites from Whole Hog Cafe and the much-missed The Villa as requested by Gay Moore.
A request for recipes from Tontitown restaurants is behind this week's column. Tontitown, nestled just west of Springdale in Washington County is famous for its grape festival and Italian restaurants.
As I write this, Arkansas is bracing for another round of snowy weather (which will be but a distant memory by the time you read this). The calendar and the budding trees and flowers tell me spring is springing forth, even if the weather is uncooperative. This week's recipes are excellent fits for early spring or even Easter, for those planning that far ahead.
